>>> GOVINDA (USA) – World BASS Music <<<
Govinda is the alter-ego of Austin based producer/composer Shane Madden. He began studying violin and composition at the age of eight and went on to study classical violin at the University of Texas where he fell in love with electronic music production. It was in Madden’s pursuit of his gypsy roots that he opened his ears to music from around the world. From experiences learning violin with mysterious masters on his journeys across the globe and his passion for modern design and technology, the current sound of Govinda was born.
Govinda has played with Thievery Corporation, Tipper, Bassnectar, Shpongle, Cheb I Sabbah, STS9 and many more and been featured on over 25 compilations such as Buddha Bar II, Asian Travels II, and Nirvana Lounge selling a combined 400,000 copies. Govinda has played at numerous festivals throughout North America including Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Sea of Dreams, SXSW and more. Govinda’s music has been licensed on shows like “Roswell” WB, “Road Rules” MTV, and “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” Bravo as well as many independent films.
The Govinda live show is truly a multi-sensory experience that features professional dancers, live projections, resonating vocals and a sonical sound-scape. His live experience is full of vibrant energy that plays to its crowd. Govinda performs on Ableton Live accompanied by classical violin. Govinda is currently touring in support of his album “Universal On Switch” which was released independently earlier this year.
>>> SLYNK (Australia) – Ghettofunk <<<
Evan Chandler aka Slynk had music on the mind from birth. Naturally gifted with a musical ear he flirted with a range of classical instruments including piano, guitar and drums.
In 2004, Slynk received a gift that would inevitably set the wheels in motion. A set of turntables motivated the aspiring DJ, and consequently resulted in an unremitting addiction to vinyl. The two years following, in his… hometown Brisbane, Slynk secured a residency in an underground New York inspired café. Here he refined his skills, experimented and educated his peers and fans with mash up productions of classic hip hop, ingrained with rare and funky, rhythmically savvy grooves.
In April 2008 local DJ agencies started showing a zealous interest and in time Slynk was running rampage and shaking rumps throughout Brisbane’s most notorious funky joints. Bedroom DJ no longer, Slynk was fulfilling his destiny as one of Australia’s leading funky breakbeat DJs and producers.
Regular interstate and international gigs reaped overwhelming support and love from the world’s most respected funky breaks vinyl slingers including A Skillz (Fingerlickin’), Featurecast, Mooqee, Fort Knox Five, Freddy Fresh Worldwide, Craig Charles (BBC 6Music) and many more.
Recently Slynk smashed the Fractal Forest stage at Canada’s biggest breakbeat festival, Shambhala, simultaneously releasing his first three vinyls on respected ghetto funk labels Goodgroove and Manmade. All of which featured in Juno Record’s Best of Breakbeat 2009 list hitting number 1, 12 & 30.
Slynk’s reputation stems from his inventory of unreleased and unsigned party style ghetto funk bootlegs, remixes and edits. His work is highly sought after by DJs around the world while his forward momentum knows no boundaries, releasing a remix for Jalapeno Records and more bangers for Goodgroove and Manmade.
Destroying the snow season dance floors at Perisher NSW the funky breakbeat prodigy is ready to take on summer. With new tunes, collaborations and projects in the pipelines, you’re guaranteed a fresh show.
Slynk has supported an unsurpassed list of local and international artists, including De La Soul, Spinderella (Salt’n’Pepa), Ugly Duckling, Amp Fiddler, Lyrics Born, Roots Manuva, DJ Moneyshot (Solidsteel), Killaqueenz, DCUP, Featurecast, Fuzzbox INC, Nick Thayer, Boogie Army, Fdel, Qdup, The Nextmen, Dexter, Rennie Pilgrim, Rouge Element, Sly Players, Rephrase, Jon Ohms and countless others.
